Making a presentation that is engaging and interesting can be tough. We at AVE have seen a fair share of them while working for our clients, some good, some not so good. Here’s our top 10 tips for making sure your presentation goes smoothly!

1) Speak clearly and slowly and don’t read off the slides. People are far more likely to listen to you if the slideshow is enhancing what you’re saying rather than mirroring it.

2)Keep slides to a minimum. While making your slideshow, constantly ask yourself if that’s really necessary to have on the big screen.

3) If you’re using an embedded video in the presentation, put a holding slide with your logo on before and after for a really smooth transition.

4) Consider hiring a wireless slide advancer so you can keep in control of where your presentation is heading at all times. The advancers usually have a range of 3 meters, so keep within that to avoid frustration.

5) Copy all raw files on to the same memory stick and talk to your technicians before hand so both of you are on the same page.

6) Make use of the technicians, we’re always happy to help and get bored if we’re left sat around!

7) If you’re using your own laptop and cables, let the technicians know well in advance as sometimes compatibility issues will have to be fixed before hand.

8 It’s not advisable to use an office laptop for a presentation, they often have restrictions and background tasks running that make everything run slower.

9) Constantly look at your audience, if you’re reading off notes in front of you  the audience will switch off.

10) Enjoy yourself and your audience will too.
