Event technical support & AV equipment hire in Abingdon
Home to over 36,000 people, Abingdon is a civil parish and market town based in Oxfordshire, England. Abingdon, or Abingdon on Thames, is located 5.5 miles south of Oxford, and 62 miles from London, and has claim to be one of Britain’s oldest continuously occupied towns.
Abingdon was known as the site of the MG Car Factory, which closed in 1980 after 51 years of manufacturing. Nowadays, Abingdon is close to several major scientific companies: UKAEA at Culham, Harwell Laboratory, and the new Diamond Light Source synchrotron.
Arguably the most famous landmark in Abingdon is the Abingdon County Hall Museum, which was formally the Royal County Hall of Berkshire. Abingdon was in the county of Berkshire until 2014 and was the county town until it ceded that to Reading in 1867.
English rock band Radiohead formed at the Abingdon School in 1985. In 1992 they released their debut single Creep, which although initially unsuccessful, achieved worldwide critical acclaim following the release of their debut album a year later. The band’s third album, OK Computer, is regularly acknowledged as one of the landmark records of the 1990s.
