Private car hire and taxi service Uber has launched a same-day grocery deliver service in Washington DC.

Their main smartphone app has opened its Corner Store facility, which covers more than 100 items. The products are competitively priced against other high street stores and include no delivery fee.

Uber has stated that the Corner Store is only to last a few weeks and is working with users to improve the range of goods they provide.

The service has been described as an “experiment” and is the latest in the series of tech films to introduce the same day delivery service.

Amazon has operated AmazonFresh delivery service in California and Seattle since its invitation-only beta test began in August 2007.

Similarly, Google offers Shopping Express in San Francisco and Instacart charges  fee to send “personal shoppers” to choose and deliver a wide range of goods from selected stores in several US cities within 2 hours of receiving the order.

Uber can be used to order a car pick up in more than 100 cities around the world.
