Projectors are very expensive so it makes sense to take care of them to make sure they last longer. Here at AVE Services we maintain our projectors regularly to ensure they stay working well, and here’s how you can keep yours doing the same.

1) The most effective way to make your projector last longer is to turn it off when not in use. Projector bulbs will blow and when they do they are often expensive to replace, best to put off having to do that as much as possible! Some projectors take a few minutes to turn off properly, it is important that you do not move them until it has fully switched off.

2) Clean the filter regularly. This is another way of keeping your projector bulb happy. The filter is often found on the side of the projector. Either unclip or slide it out and shake it over a bin to dislodge the dust built up in there. You can also blow it or, if you’re feeling really thorough, vacuum it out and pop it back in.

3) Lens maintenance. The filters aren’t the only part of your projector that get dusty and, like the bulb, lenses are also expensive to replace. To clean a lens properly, use a canister of compressed air to remove dust. If there is dirt or smears, then dampen a soft cloth with lens cleaner or use lens cleaning paper to gently wipe the surface. Never use abrasive materials.

4) Clean the case. To clean the case, unplug all power and video cables and wipe the case with a soft cloth. For stubborn marks use a neutral detergent and vacuum the exterior vents.

5) Cleaning the lamp vent screens. This is the trickiest one. Unplug all cables and make sure the projector is off and cooled down. The lamp gets very hot so consult your projector manual to find out how long you should leave it for before opening. The manual will also tell you how to remove the lamp on your specific model. Do not touch the front of the lamp. Use a hoover with a crevice attachment to clean the vent screens. Replace the lamp, don’t over-tighten any screws and you should be good to go!
